You’ll pay top dollar even to see washed-up rock acts in the smallest of venues. Such wasn’t the case on April 16 when I caught the best of the morning and evening sessions of the Alcorn State University’s 36th annual  Jazz Festival at the Vicksburg Convention Center. The Hinds Community College Stage Band turned into a top-flight jazz ensemble that Saturday morning, under the direction of Music Instructor Randy Mapes. I managed to snap a few photos from a distance with my cellphone. I’ll add that people are the fuel that keeps the engine running. When you go to a bank, order a meal, drive on the highway, or buy a car, it takes people doing their jobs well to make those little trips run smoothly. It’s the first time a company, instead of an individual, has won the award.  “It’s an honor for Valley Services to receive this award,” CEO Jim Walt said. “We’re certainly humbled.” The most recent event Valley Services catered was the Winter-Reed Partnership Award ceremony that honored Hinds President Dr. Clyde Muse. Valley Services was the title sponsor, also announcing a new Hinds scholarship to be given to a member of Hinds Connection.     Founded in 1960 by the late Bill Hogg, the company is the sixth-largest contract food service company in the U.S. and the single-biggest contractor that specializes in meals for seniors. It has been the contract food products provider for Hinds since 1971.  At Hinds, the company serves student and employee cafeterias at the Raymond and Utica campuses, as well as Eagle’s Nest Grille and Eagle Ridge Conference Center. The company also caters fundraisers and other functions at the college, such as being the title sponsor of the April Golf Fun Fest and Employee Appreciation Day, both annual events, providing breakfast monthly for President’s Cabinet meetings and donating food for many other Hinds events.  “I depend on Valley quite a bit, and they have never let me down,” said Vice President for Advancement Jackie Granberry. “Whether it is a very dignified dinner for a few at the president’s home, a dinner for 500, a reception for dignitaries or anything in between, they always provide the best service and the best food.” [![New Call-to-action](https://no-cache.hubspot.com/cta/default/196949/da3e285d-0bdf-43c1-9850-e7e55a5ab34e.png)](https://cta-redirect.hubspot.com/cta/redirect/196949/da3e285d-0bdf-43c1-9850-e7e55a5ab34e)   \*The content & images from this post are from the October 2015 OnCampus Publication  ](https://hub.hindscc.edu/blog/valleyservices_2015alumniserviceaward) In alumni, Valley Services ### [Braving the heat to see Eagles' blazing start September 18, 2015 | by Danny Barrett Jr. A hot, humid night made better only by a quick-striking offense and a snappy marching band must mean one thing – it’s football season in the South again.](https://hub.hindscc.edu/blog/braving-the-heat-to-see-eagles-blazing-start) [All posts](https://hub.hindscc.edu/blog/all) [Next](https://hub.hindscc.edu/blog/author/danny-barrett-jr/page/2) ### Recent Posts ### Topic Cloud -
