As the director of Web Communications at Hinds Community College, I learn more about the career and technical programs we offer at Hinds all the time and sometimes (most of the time) I could kick myself for not starting my education at a community college. There are so many programs for anyone interested in a career in technology and I wanted to share a few that I think are really cool.
Many of us are guilty of spending far too much time in front of a computer screen or staring at our phones and not connecting with what’s going on in the real world right this very moment. I know I am! Take some time this holiday season (and afterward) to do a few random acts of kindness. It may make someone’s day, and you’ll be surprised how many times that person is you!
Today there are tons of tools and services available to help you get started on a career path, meet professionals, learn from people with similar interests, and find a great job. You never know when an online contact may be your next boss!
Every year since 1998, Beloit College has released their "Mindset List" around the beginning of the Fall semester. The list is meant to reflect the way incoming college freshmen view the world. I always find the info interesting and entertaining, even if I don’t agree with every characterization and even though each new list makes me feel old.

David and I spoke to the Drafting and Design Technology students last week about social media, electronic portfolios, marketing yourself and mobile apps. We had a great time and left with a renewed enthusiasm for what we do. I was also inspired to finish this post on mobile apps that I believe are essential for students.
