The show featured several of Hinds CC’s academic and career/technical programs as well as local businesses. This was my first time going to the event and I was very excited to experience all the iTechnology show had to offered.

A few weeks ago, I was walking around the Hinds CC Raymond campus and stumbled upon the Katherine Denton Art Building. Since I’ve always enjoyed creating and viewing art (photography is my favorite medium), I decide to go into the building and explore. As I walked through the hall, I noticed the walls were filled with several student sketches. Continuing on my journey in the building, I entered a classroom where students were molding clay into pottery. I watched the students as they took ordinary pieces of clay and transformed them into extraordinary bowls and vases. I was taken aback at the level of precision and care that goes into making pottery. It is certainly more difficult than it looks to produce smooth, professional looking pottery.

I always find the info interesting and entertaining, even if I don’t agree with every characterization and even though each new list makes me feel old.

I’m Jil Wright, Director of Web Communications at Hinds. David and I spoke to the Drafting and Design Technology students last week about social media, electronic portfolios, marketing yourself and mobile apps. We had a great time and left with a renewed enthusiasm for what we do. I was also inspired to finish this post on mobile apps that I believe are essential for students.

Consider this situation: You’re out with your family and friends and a great photo opportunity comes up. Unfortunately, you don’t have your digital camera with you. You have your iPhone or Android device, but you don’t like the way the photos come out. So, what do you do next? One excellent solution is to download a free mobile photography app called Instagram.
