The weather is getting cooler, and it’s time to start setting some new fall trends at Hinds Community College!
This season, be on the lookout for statement necklaces. It doesn’t matter if you prefer a bedazzled layered look or a chunky choker—just make sure something is around your neck this fall to add a little extra pizzaz to everything from casual blouses to cocktail dresses.
We all know plaid is popular for fall, but this season is all about toned down versions of tartan. This year, designers such as Calvin Klein and Victoria Beckham approached plaid in a much more muted way, and used the print on everything from outerwear to pencil legged pants.
This fall also be on the lookout for florals. They’re not just for spring anymore! Several designers kicked fall colors to the curb and opted for floral prints in sweatshirts, dresses and skirts.
Amp up your look with a dark nail or lip color! A dramatic maroon lip color with a simple swipe of mascara can take your look from drab to fab! Must have colors for fall are mustard, maroon, blush and tan. Expect to see tons of pants, knits, skirts, and — of course — outerwear done up in varying shades of tan, the most classic color there is, from soft khaki to rich camel.
Here in the Fashion Merchandising department we all agree that leopard print is a neutral! A good pair of leopard flats can be a staple item in your wardrobe. Pair with a solid colored dress for a pop of print! Distressed denim is also a piece that you can dress up or down. Wear with converse, heels, or booties, and when the weather gets cooler you can even layer some trendy leggings under your distressed jeans.
Whether walking the runway in New York City or simply going to class, you can always be sure to be wearing the latest and greatest trends. Sites like Pinterest or subscriptions to fashion magazines are always helpful, but remember…consumers dictate fashion! Create your individual look, start new trends, and own it!
The fringe statement necklace on the left is from Nordstrom and is $2,100.00, whereas the necklace on the right is from Charming Charlie for $18.00. Fashion doesn’t always have to be expensive! Be stylish, not “spendy.”
Be on the lookout for varying shades of tan. A tan trench coat is the perfect fall transition piece and a classic staple that will last for years.
The Hinds Rankin Fashion Board is ready for fall! Katrina, from left, is wearing a pair of distressed jeans, while Ashley is rocking her favorite pair of leopard flats. Princess opted for a cute plaid top, and Gabrielle keeps in touch with the statement necklace trend by wearing a long turquoise necklace. Lola is looking sassy with fringe (which is always popular for fall) and Jasmine is wearing a beautiful shade of maroon.
