Congratulations students, you did it! You’ve finished all your projects, taken all your final exams, and have finished the school year. The summer break you’ve been waiting for is finally here, and you deserve it!
Summer should be fun and relaxing, but it can also be a great chance to gain experience and take part in activities that further your potential to be an outstanding student and eventually become a great employee. Here’s 10 things that every Hinds student should do this summer.
1) Take an online class.
This is a great idea for students. Taking an online class keeps your mind sharp during the summer time and also keeps you on track to graduate on time. Our online classes at Hinds Community College are low cost, and very convenient. Want more information on Hinds Elearning? Click here!
2) Make sure your registration is taken care of for the fall semester.
Nothing is worse than not knowing your schedule on the first day of classes. This can result in missing a day of class! Make sure this doesn’t happen to you. Take care of fall registration and memorize your schedule well in advance!
3) Email your professors.
Take some time to reach out to your professors and make a good first impression. Let them know your name, and ask them if there is anything you need to know prior to the first day of class. This will help you be prepared and know exactly what’s going on when you enter the classroom!
4) Apply for an Internship.
Getting an internship in the field you are studying is a great way to build connections! It will be a great opportunity to establish yourself as a professional and gain valuable work experience outside of the classroom!
As I mentioned earlier, summer is a well-deserved break! Take a week or two and explore places you’ve never been. This is a great chance to relax, clear your mind, and just enjoy a vacation!
6) Build your portfolio.
Don’t have a portfolio? That’s fine, but start building one now! This will be a great resource for you to show your skills and accomplishments to future employers. It could be the key ingredient to landing your first job after college!
7) Learn a new skill.
Summer break usually brings a good bit of downtime. Why not use this downtime to be productive? Whether it’s something logical or recreational, learn something that will help you be a better student this fall!
8) Think about ways you can get involved at Hinds this upcoming year.
Hinds offers many ways to get involved on campus. ASG, Phi Theta Kappa, Hinds Connection, Hi-Steppers, and Intramurals are just a few of many opportunities for our students to get involved on campus. This a great way to be successful this fall!
This looks great on a resume, but will also help you grow as a person. Volunteering for charity organizations, disaster relief efforts, and just helping people in general is a great way to spend some time this summer. You will see as you impact others; you will most definitely impact yourself!
10) Have FUN!
Summer is meant to be fun. It is meant to be a break. It is meant to be relaxing. Take a vacation, go on a road trip, and spend time with friends. These few months are about finding that perfect balance to rest while staying productive. If you follow these tips, I’m sure this can be the best summer of your life!
